Quaking Aspen (Populus tremuloides)
Growing Conditions: The quaking aspen grows well in acidic, loamy, moist, sandy, well-drained and clay soils. It prefers abundant moisture. It also favors sun to partial shade.
Ecological Benefits: Deer and Moose use Quaking Aspen groves for shade, and these same animals consume bark, leaves, buds, and twigs of quaking aspens throughout the year. Ruffed grouse are especially dependent on quaking aspens for food and nesting habitat. They are known for being the world’s largest living organism as they reproduce vegetatively as well as through pollination.
