Growing Conditions: One of the most tolerant trees there is; sun, shade, sand to clay. Tolerates ice breaks and cold. It flourishes best in moist rich soils.

Ecological Benefits: It is a valuable food source for most animals. Important pollinator species for butterflies and moths; notably the Columbia Silk moth among others.
