Johnson Railroad St./Library Stormwater Mitigation Full Design
This October2024, the Lamoille County Conservation Distirct (LCCD) completed a full design through a Natural Resources Conservation Council (NRCC) Clean Water Block Grant funded by the VT. Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). LCCD partnered Watershed Consulting Associates LCC., the Town and Village of Johnson, and the Lamoille County Planning Commission (LCPC) to design a stormwater system to mitigate stormwater pollution from entering the Gihon River and the associated Lamoille River watershed.
The proposed system would be a series of subsurface chambers that would trap sediment and its associated pollutants under the parking lot of the Johnson Library. As some of you may be aware of the Johnson Library will be moved to another location so the actual footprint of this system may or may not be altered depending on what the town and village of Johnson plan to do with this area.
It is important to note that this project, as well as all other stormwater, watershed or natural resource conservation projects are also focused on reducing the overall Total Maximum Daily Loads of Phosphorus in the Lake Champlain Basin as spelled out in the State’s Clean Water Initiative and the new goals of the Clean Water Act 76.
